I don't think that Huckabee or Palin are losers....but I'd have to agree on just about any sitting Congresscritter .....Boehner, McConnell, et al. The Republican party needs to get back to those who champion its core principals of limited govt and taxation....Acting like Dems is what got their asses kicked last time around.... _________________-- The republican party, if it is going to win a national election again against a powerful coalition of groups now aligned against it, has to develop an identity that many, many more people can identify with. It can't just be the religious right - in fact, social issues should take a deep back seat. Losing the middle to the democrats was a huge blow. The middle will not come back to the republicans because of stem cells, abortion or family counseling. It will come back because the republicans will have a cogent, logical, empathic plan for rolling back the massive increase in government that is taking place. And the plan will NOT intrude on the private lives of the people it is trying to win over (don't blend Terry Schaivo with a positive change in the tax code, or a regulatory change). I know Mrs. Palin has her admirers, but to me she has all the baggage and none of the ideas (or intelligence) to carry the torch. She blames everybody for everything.....but doesn't really look at herself too closely. I think Romney right now is the logical guy to lead the party back. But it would be helpful to have a whole new generation of fiscal conservatives, maybe out of the private sector, who can talk the talk and walk the walk. I still like Newt cause at least he has ideas...but so much baggage! Again! We'll see how it plays out. But the democrats will stay in charge until the republicans can logically present a message that both works and isn't ludicrous in today's environment. I'm sorry...a spending freeze right now is not appropriate or believable. It sounds desperate. Maybe the budget later this week will do a better job of hitting the sweet spot.
