Every southern state allowed segregation to thrive for 100 years: 1865 to 1964. Who was this majority that allowed that horrible injustice to go on for so long? Not the liberals! They have always fought injustice. Because we understand it and our obligation to the downtrodden. Let's say 1/5 of the south was liberal and 2/5ths racist and 2/5ths moderate. 2/5ths does not a majority make. All my life I have watched as good people refused to stand up for the downtrodden. They were too polite to speak up. The only way the racists in the south, and that is what they were, were able to maintain control of segregation was with the help of the "resonable folks' it seems to me. We liberals sure as hell were never willing to go along with racism.
