Do we all not hope our investments do better than cash? You dont sound too opptimistic.

"Msft has to start investing that cash, as you know, they throw off an
abundance of free cash." They would be better off paying it out as dividends, then with that abundance of free cash, you could invest in Sun. Bill's got a pretty big job on his hands as the DEFENDER of the worlds best selling operating system, not to mention the mutual fund he seems to be running now.

I wonder, if Bill had enough money, and Java was for sale, do you think he would buy it? ;)

twister: sounds like MSFT is concerned that they can't do better than cash in the future via their mainstay, the software industry or they would invest it in this mainstay.
