Link? I ask you what you think about something and you ask me for a link. You are the missing link until you respond with consideration. I have acquaintances from many of those regions, they find the American system a bit odd to say the least. They, for the most part, are not bigoted and understand the ethnic requirement but wonder still about the entitlements given to 'African Americans,' for which they don't qualify. It's not a complaint, more like a tongue clicker.

"How do you think the millions of Americans who immigrated from Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, Western Sahara, and South Africa feel when we tell them not to check the box that says 'African American'?

It is a labeling issue only, which is what Michael was concerned about in the post I responded to. Labeling has little beneficial use except with regards to entitlements and funding. Once a label gets hooked into economic benefits it can become an ironic embarrassment over time and circumstance. I haven't seen any 'Indian' tribes turning down government aid over the use of the term.
