Re: For the record, I think that we will see one of the worst January's in the market in quite sometime. I know alot of people who will be unloading at the beginning of the year to take advantage of 20% capital gains and to offset payments until April of 1999.

I've missed the logic somehow. If I owe a bunch of taxes on 1997 income, why would I be dumping stock to raise money in January? Why wouldn't I wait to the last minute in April to do that? Why would this produce a bad market in January?

Am I overlooking some change to the tax code that you're referring to? Or better yet some attactive tax management trick?
