Obama is trying to save a significant part of the capitalist system

What does he or his advisers know about capitalism? Any experience?

Nothing...

>In general, rather than letting technocrats tinker with individual companies, individual industries, or even with individuals, government's role should be the opposite: creating level playing field, easy to follow transparent rules applying equally to everyone.

But the playing field isn't level and never really has been.

And if you allow things to happen that kill millions of jobs, then where are those people who lose their jobs (not to mention their kids, spouses, neighbors...) on the playing field?

The government SHOULD have, in the past, made sure the field was more level. But it didn't. And now Obama and company need to do something to deal with the results and try to start anew. But letting the economy destruct in a chaotic fashion is not a good way to do that.
