BS, culture is learned behaviour which is not part of DNA. Tool production and use are learned. CDMA is a tool. Cyberphones are tools. Culture isn't just dancing, singing and painting. [Though people use all sorts of definitions for words so you have your meaning for "culture"]

Yes, life was arduous and commonly short back then. That's a separate matter. Prostitution is legal and common in NZ now. No big deal at all. Debtors' prisons are a good idea = enforcing contracts is an essential function of government. Work houses [aka factories] are also a good idea and much better than dole bludgers.
