If Toyota has so many top models in individual segments, they must have some lemons elsewhere to bring down their overall average down to 4th place overall. Or Buick has had a lot of second place finishes to overtake Toyota in dependability.

Toyota is 3rd and 4th. Lexus is a division within Toyota. So that you're clear......Buick is a division within GM and so is Lexus. No other division of GM has made the top ten....just Buick. Not only has the Lexus division of Toyota made the top ten but the entire Toyota company has made the top ten as well. GM, America's largest car company, is no where near the top ten.

But the study is a direct contradiction to what you have believed religiously in order to absolve the union of their responsibility for the problems at US car makers.

No it isn't. American car companies are improving but they are still behind Japanese car companies. Only Ford is making definitive headway. And I suspect that's because of their new CEO, Alan Mullaly ,who came from Boeing.

It also reinforces my point that the differences between the US and Japanese in quality are minimal. 2 of the top 5 were US, and 3rd, the 3 year old Jaguars to tie for the top spot were back than made by Ford.

Sorry but you misinterpreted the report. The Japanese still have a sizeable lead.
