Susan R. Johnson, 38, of Turners Falls has been arrested for the assault on her little girl, Jocelyn, and will be arraigned today in Gardner District Court on attempted murder charges, according to police. It’s unclear what Johnson was doing at the Heywood-Wakefield apartment building in Gardner just after 10 p.m. yesterday, where a security guard making his final round for the night came upon her allegedly stabbing Jocelyn with a pair of scissors inside a laundry room, said Gardner Police Chief Neil Erickson. He said the little girl had several deep puncture wounds, and about 100 tiny poke marks on her body. The security guard grabbed the scissors from Johnson, but she then grabbed a dryer cord and wrapped it around her daughter’s neck, Erickson said. Two residents of the building helped tackle Johnson and the security guard restrained her until police arrived, Erickson said. “I think they saved the child’s life,” Erickson said. “All three of them did a great job.” Jocelyn had ligature marks around the neck as well as stab wounds, according to police. Johnson was arrested for attempted murder, armed assault with intent to murder, three counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a child with injury, threat to commit a crime and assault and battery, according to police. The child was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital. The Department of Children and Families took custody of Jocelyn. Johnson was held at the Gardner police station on $500,000 cash bail. jfargen@bostonherald.com (2) Comments | Post / Read Comments
