All,
In the Bad ol days of Bre-X, many news sources stated gold price was depressed due to size of the "find". If some future find of a great level were identified, should we, or should we not list it here?

TB, I agree I would rather not recommend individual stocks, besides, if you looked at my gold portfolio, the best advice I could give is not to do what I have done. (Say wasn't that a song "House of the Rising Sun") But we digress.

Both Australia and Hong Kong down about 3.5% (9:20 Eastern) but gold is starting to climb back up.

With all these SE Asian currencies falling, wouldn't trade among the SE Asian countries be the same as before and their exports to the US now cheaper for US citenzens. Except for imports from US, shouldn't all this be good for the economies? I realize that interest rates rise putting new projects in jepardy.

I think the Chinese proverb "may you live in interesting times" is coming true.

BTW, the Chinese market is up 1.8%.

off topic-relevant joke. Sorry Thomas

Traveling Cheap

Three lawyers and three MBAs are traveling by train to a (commodities??) conference.
At the station, the three lawyers each buy tickets and watch as the
three MBAs buy only a single ticket.

"How are three people going to travel on only one ticket?" asks a
lawyer.

"Watch and you'll see," answers an MBA.

They all board the train. The lawyers take their respective seats
but all three MBAs cram into a restroom and close the door behind them.

Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around
collecting tickets. He knocks on the restroom door and says,
"Ticket, please."

The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in
hand. The conductor takes it and moves on.

The lawyers saw this and agreed it was quite a clever idea. So
after the conference, the lawyers decide to copy the MBAs on the return trip and save some money (recognizing the MBAs superior intellect).

When they get to the station, they buy a single ticket for the return trip. To their astonishment, the MBAs don't buy a ticket at all.

"How are you going to travel without a ticket?" says one perplexed
lawyer.

"Watch and you'll see," answers an MBA.

When they board the train the three lawyers cram into a restroom
and the three MBAs cram into another one nearby. The train departs.

Shortly afterward, one of the MBAs leaves his restroom and walks over to the restroom where the lawyers are hiding. He knocks on the door and says, "Ticket, please."

Everyone - As a follow up to the brief discussion here last week, I have just emailed the web-mistress as follows:

Greetings, Jill -

Thank you for the unique and outstanding service that you provide through Silicon Investor. I am the originator of a thread on your site called "Gold Price Monitor". There have periodically been complaints from active thread participants about the propensity of some posters to misuse the forum as a discussion site for their favorite junior gold stocks. I am very sympathetic to this concern, and would prefer that the thread be somewhat of a refuge from the discussion of these stocks, and remain on subject. I have tried to express this concern on the thread politely and considerately, and then more forcefully as some were determined to ignore this guideline. As this continues to be a source of friction on the thread, I would appreciate it very much if I were allowed to alter the threads header. I think this is necessary because unless a clear guideline is drawn in this regard, I feel that the function, utility, and enjoyment of the forum will be jeopardized. If possible, I would like to have the threads header altered to read as follows. Thank you for your attention:

The purpose of this thread is very simple: To monitor/analyse those factors affecting the price of gold, long-term, short-term, and in-between, and to determine where we currently stand in relation to those factors. Comments on the rest of the precious metals complex are also encouraged, as is technical analyses.

"Please do not seek or give recommendations or advice on individual stocks. If you do not abide this restriction, fellow threaders may seek to have you removed from the thread."

I hope that this thread will prove to be a valuable exchange of information, ideas, and insight. -TB
