If there is no buyer than the value is zero.

If you have a stock and no one is willing to buy from you its worthless.

Giving the banks the ability to come up with their own value is a scam.

The same as giving the money to AIG who passes to the banks and the banks show a profit in this quarter due to the smoke and mirrors.

Furthermore, undermining the FASB's authority and independence by forcing them into changing the rules makes that body worthless and opens the door that any accounting rule they set and the politicos don't like can be changed. Basically rendering financial statements worthless and not to be relied on.
