FDR made things so bad that in 1936 he was reelected in one of the greatest landslides in history.

And then he made things even worse which is why he won reelection two more times.

FDR was the best politician in American history. His economic policy was a disaster. But he was a good enough politician to make up for it. Much like Obama in that respect.

FDR's handling of the war was, and the runup to it, was masterful. Had America not been attacked, however, his commitment to the American people that our "boys" would not fight in an overseas war unless attacked, would have made it very difficult for him to give Churchill the support he was demanding.

If one looks carefully, he can see that FDR's handling of the war very much similar to GWB's handling of the current wars. In particular, both were exceptionally strong and competent wartime leaders who knew what had to be done and didn't give a shit about the politics (by the end of FDR's second term, he didn't much care about getting reelected, and by the end of the third, he absolutely didn't WANT to be).

Today's liberals haven't the stomach for self-defense. They'd rather just allow the country to swept up by whatever the next threat is -- be it Communism or terrorism. You have to have an FDR or GWB to be safe during those times.

Obama's actions are likely to result in a very substantial WMD attack in a major city.

He made people feel good. The first President to speak directly and regularly to the American people regularly by radio during the great age of radio. Probably no one has done it better since him.

But winning elections and making people feel good otoh and making things better oto are different things.

Barney Frank said it yesterday......they are suffering from some kind of psychological disorder. I've noticed it for some time now. Their behavior is very odd.

FDR made things so bad that in 1936 he was reelected in one of the greatest landslides in history.

And then he made things even worse which is why he won reelection two more times.

The right has become completely disconnected from reality. It's fascinating to watch. But how will it end? Badly i'm guessing.
