Well, this evening I called the fire department to report the smell of rubber burning - it was very very strong. I went over to the neighbors and they could smell it too, to they called the fire department too. Took awhile for them to arrive. I remarked to my neighbor that I was glad the house wasn't on fire because they were sure taking their time.

They finally got here - no sirens - pulled up out front and 2 of them got out of the fire truck with big smiles on their faces. They stood there waiting for me to explain why we called them. I asked, "Can't you smell that?" They looked at each other grinning. With a big smile, one of them announced that we'd called the fire department on a skunk!!!

Turns out 8 other people called and reported the same thing.

I've lived here about 27 years and there has never been a skunk in our town. There are no hills, no forest, no wide open spaces.
