I've seen several smart cars parked in a tiny space perpindicular to the curb. People here also park in all kinds of strange places, including pulled partially on the curb.

Also, there is a strategy to crossing the street. At an uncontrolled crossing, say at Piazza Venizia, you wait with a group of people. When a few of them step off the curb, you follow. No hesitation. Unless they want to run down 10 people or so, they have to stop. It's really quite an amazing experience.
