Berries only for fruit. Bananas, oranges, apples etc, are very high in sugar.

So are raisins.

Reading the label on Bush's black beans I dont see any sugar and I dont think it tastes sweetened, like baked beans.

My order of food priorities are:

Eat food in most natural state;

tuna, salmon, chicken breast are primary meats, occasional beef and pork,

Lots of vegetables, mostly broccoli, green beans, peas, carrots, etc.

brown rice and black beans, moderate portions and reduce these if my weight is rising,

oat bran, ground flaxseed and egg for breakfast,

EV olive oil wherever I can put it.

Almonds for snacks but no chips or pretzels,

Scotch and wine,

Avoid cake and ice cream except for rare occasions.

Lets see where this takes me. Being able to reduce weight without giving up much that I care for would be great. I dont mind the exercise to burn off some of the calories I put on with the rice and beans.

LB,

The easiest way to eliminate a habit, such as eating wheat, sugar, corn potatoes and rice, is to "zero" them out. If you cut down, your subconscious does a number on you for a longer time.

That's easier when you are in complete control of what you eat and when. It is not that easy when you live with other people. My wife is generally onboard about not over-eating carbs, but not about the "zero" idea.

Kids are another complication. One of them must be in the middle of a growth spurt, and is (uncharacteristically) always hungry. Considering how picky she is, and that she eats only so much protein (meat) during one meal, it is not easy easy to eliminate a calorie source that tey like...
