OT - The radio overplay of Hungry Heart (one of the worst songs on the album, IMO) kind of killed The River for me, but it has a lot of great songs. Yeah, that recession was really the worst in the downturn in manufacturing here that began earlier in the 70s and I think The River reflected that to some extent. Where I grew up, until the mid-70s, lots of people could graduate from high school and get a pretty good full-time job in coal, steel or glass. By the time I graduated (1979), the glass industry in the area was dead, coal was dying, and steel was on its way. I remember looking for a summer job in 1980 and got a lot of really nasty rebukes from people who said I had a lot of nerve when men with families to support were all losing their jobs.
