The MSNBC-oriented View thread is here:Subject 55719 ------------------------------------If you are like us, and have several people working in a relatively large house on their various projects, and you brought them together to celebrate Earth hour in 1 room with a single candle- then you were indisputably saving energy (even if you use CFL's)- and you also had some nice family time, or, if you were with your significant other, you had a romantic evening :-) The image of a family gathering together from a large house, turning out a half dozen or so lights plus tvs, computers, games, vcr's, etc to crouch around a single candle for an hour to "celebrate" something is stirring. But how does one celebrate Earth hour? Maybe by copying the Orthodox Jewish Sabbath candle blessing: covering one'e eyes and praying - Baruch atah, GAIA, Eloheinu (no Adonai, of course), .... but that involves two candles and more than one would be disrespectful, not to mention down right harmful, to Mother Earth. Hmmm. I still think sitting in the darkness would be best. More respectful of poor endangered-by-our-civilization Gaia. But whatever, one candle or (better) no candle, why not make it a regular celebration, daily or at least weekly. Surely the endangered Earth deserves the attention. Each family member could share the earth-friendly actions taken since the last Earth Hour, confessions of and repentence for sins against the earth (O Gaia, I am heartily sorry for having offended you ...) committed since the last Eath Hour. Then join in singing an earth hour song (but with no electrical implements used). Here's an Earth Hour song (but don't play it on anything electric - that would spoil it - just memorize the words and sing it together): youtube.com Others:youtube.com youtube.com Finally here's an idea that only uses one candle:youtube.com
