See my other post about how the prevalence of guns in households will almost certainly increase the level of deaths. More people can shoot their kids in a rage or depression than stab them or strangle them by hand. Ditto spouses they are mad at or themselves. That's just how the brain works, shooting is one level removed from killing by hand.

It would be interesting to compare the number of violent deaths by non-gun means to gun deaths and really compare the two. Know where I could find that data?

It's harder to kill them if you have to use your hands- like holding them under water, or knifing them. It's so much easier to stand back and just shoot something. That's the same reason folks don't want to defend their homes with axes and knives- it just seems so much easier to shoot someone.

If the second is true, so is the first. I'm afraid it's inescapable.
