They're fun, but you never seem to make much money with
them when you're right, and you lose everything when you're
wrong.

Some people think that options are a form of roulette, that is legal
on wall street. I disagree. I think it is more like lotto, or 3-card
monte.

Okay. You can also use them for tax minimization. But be
careful, consult a tax guy. The natural use of options would
be to protect against a downward move in a stock. (Buy
puts.) But I think it can do some weird stuff when they determine
whether you held the stock for a short term gain or long term
gain...

Best of luck, (which is the most useful skill with options.)
