US has done great since the country had the right conditions to create new industries:
Computer IT Internet

That happened because Cold War end delivered a lot of technologies for civilian use and they were free of charge since R&D was paid by the government.
QCOM is a result of that too.

US has had a monopoly on the three sectors above and made most of the profit on them. I believe all the fat profits to be taken from Computer IT Internet have already been taken and there is no way the US will support a USD13 trillion economy on high tech and patents.

The tsunami of cyberphone and netbook sales is just beginning. Unlike producing another SUV, the marginal cost of producing another ASIC is very low, making another ASIC sale nearly all profit.

QCOM has a P:E near 20 with a continously rapid growth rate and Happy Meal size dividends which are continually growing are yummy too.
