RE:Every specialist on the NYSE is a trader

And you can bet your bottom dollar if the market
declines by 5 to 10% or more they will be sellers
rather than buyers of the stocks at their posts.
This is exactly what happened in '87: Instead of
providing liquidity to the market as the NYSE rules
mandate they sold and sold and sold on a net basis
then blamed Futures Trading and Portfolio Insurance
for a lack of liquidity.

Be cautious here.

Unfortunately we're not talking market timing...we're talking trading

Semantics. What is the difference? We are talking about attempting to predict ST fluctuations in price. READ: MARKET TIMING

as if the number of billionaires from this field or that field show how one is more lucrative than the other to US...!!! Its wrong anyway...SOROS

Do you really expect people to believe George Soros makes 100%+ per year? If anyone needs to get a clue...

Every specialist on the NYSE is a trader and I'll bet 80% of 'em made 2 or 3 times the 100% per annum on their capital that we're talking about!

That 80% number is correct but used in the wrong reference. I believe you meant to say that 80% of Mutual Funds woefully underperfom the S&P. If 80% of these guys you are talking about make 100% per year, why doesn't Fidelity hire some of these geniuses and beat the S&P for once? Answer. They don't exist. Allow me to qualify that statement. I am sure there are some excellent traders out there, but they are anomalies, not the 80% of traders you claim.

Re: you're but a fool

I believe this to be true for one of us.

regards,

Brian

David you are so silly, you use all your big words but you can see the forest through the trees. Not one specialist is a trader nor a investor. He is at work at a occupation that is no different than a casino owner. Do you know what on advantage of 1% means? He is making the spread you are buying the risk.
