Remember, there's a difference between "universal" health care (great in principle but can be done many different ways) and single-payer. Single-payer is cheaper than what we have now; plain old universal, who knows?

I'm specifically referring to the Medicare prescription drug plan, though, which was done in the way that would make it cost the most it possibly could -- no surprise, given that it was literally written by the pharmaceutical companies.
