The "nuance" between single-payer and universal health care is just that, a "nuance." No more than the nuance between a dog and a tree. The only difference is they are completely different.

No. Well, single-payer is a form of universal health care. >Both are being pitched as cheaper than what we have now. Both involve more centralization, more government control. For sure. But there are forms of universal health care (possibly Obama's!) that could be more expensive. >It makes absolutely no sense to point out how government programs are wasting money now, then advocate expanding those same programs. Why? Single-payer cuts out the middle man (the private insurance companies). That could save a lot of money. Not to mention there are significant bargaining opportunities and economies of scale. Medicare is a great example -- very efficient, save for the prescription drug plan, which is horrible. -Z
