People commit suicide every day.

And they should not have to choose to end their lives sooner than really necessary because, having to do the deed unassisted, they must do so while they are still physically able. Allowing assisted suicide enables them to enjoy months or years of reasonably good quality time without fear of becoming too disabled to end their suffering.
