Times are not good, but this recession is very long in the tooth
already and the Fed is working very hard on getting employment
up. Of course, Armageddon bears would say we are in
for 70 years of pain and provide arguments that since
the economy has not been restructured, it can't be over.
Restructuring will take time. The Fed's goal is to end
the acute financial crisis, then proceed with restructuring.
We'll see how these efforts go, but this does not have to
happen along with the pain of shedding 700K jobs per month.
That's what the Fed is fighting with the printing press.
Don't forget 1.5 Trillion to be printed must have an appropriate
broad money multiplier. Who knows what it is. -g-

As a comparison, when FDR revalued gold, this corresponded
to "only" 75% increase of the base. With 1.5 Trillion to
be printed, the Fed is going for 200% increase of the base now!!!
