I don't claim to be an expert, but that's not the way it was depicted in the graphics in the show I saw. My neighbor retired from Tacoma Power and Light, and he said something like equalizing the potential, but I thought the direction was from the line to the helicopter.

When I was in Juneau there were stories periodically about eagles frying themselves by sitting on the line and touching each other or something else.
