Robert: My discussions with Emile were regarding the nature of the Kingdom of God and not the operation of his spirit as you refer to in 1 Cor. 3:16. Yes, the bodies of those who are annointed with Spirit are likened to a temple. In the context of Paul's letter to the Corinthians a thorough understanding of this scripture can be achieved. What was going on in Corinth and what differentiates a Physical Man from a Spiritual Man? From Chapters 1 through 4 Paul exposes the sectarianism that has developed there. Indeed, the first part of his letter was an exhortation for unity. Notice what Paul writes in 1 Cor 2:13 KJ: "Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual." Then he goes on to define the Carnal or Physical man as having these qualities: envying, and strife, and divisions. Paul told them that they were not spiritual men but where carnal and then in 1 Cor 3:16 he tells them that they are the Temple of God and the Spirit of God dwells in them. Was Paul contradicting himself? According to the mystical believe of the Kingdom that some have understood from Luke 17 what Paul stated could not exist. Did Paul, writing under inspiration, make a mistake? In the 19th Century, the "Higher Critics" made up of the Clergy actually believed that many parts of the Bible were inaccurate. They refused to conform their thinking to the Bible but ignored the parts that contradicted their own beliefs. With regards to 1 Cor 3:16, Paul clearly shows these men that as Christians annointed with the Holy Spirit, they needed to conduct themselves in a spiritually clean way. His reference to the Temple of God reminded them of the requirements laid upon the Priests to remain clean while performing their Priestly duties within the Physical Temple. How much more were they to be clean in their thinking and conduct now that they actually contained the Spirit. They needed to conduct themselves as spiritual men and stop acting worldly especially because of their anointing. Paul continues to point out areas that they needed to correct in chapters 5&6, including keeping the congregation clean. In all this Paul clearly shows that Men and Woman need to live up to God's high standards. Their having God's Spirit especially puts them under this obligation to remain clean. Jack
