Aye, there's the rub. I bought about a year's worth of inflation protected stamps. And with the rates going in just a few weeks later, I had an automatic 5% return on my investment, tax free.

Tax free. I like that -- keeping up with inflation without the 'stealth tax' to steal away the purchasing power.
