I can't believe how many people pay attention to American Idol period. I've watched it a few times, and only liked the early try outs with the totally clueless people who can't sing (or, hear apparently) at all.
But, it's just garbage.

I'm sorry, but Simon Cowell is an arrogant bastard who's attitude is being used to promote the show.

He is, but he knows what he is talking about.

While I don't always agree about his decisions, he clearly understands the production end of the business. None of the others comes close.

Unfortunately, the music business long ago left quality of music behind in favor of the Brittany Spears side of the business.

But I think they made a mistake this year in cutting back on the losers up front. That was, to me, the most entertaining part of the show.

Ultimately, it all depends on the quality of the producer the winners end up with. Kathryn McPhee was probably the best singer they've had on the show to date, yet she is a flop. Meanwhile, Carrie Underwood, who hooked up with a first-rate producer has genuinely made herself a career off her win.

Talent is a tertiary consideration.

Ted, > When Simon Cowell gives someone a standing ovation, you know he's good.

I'm sorry, but Simon Cowell is an arrogant bastard who's attitude is being used to promote the show.

I can't believe how many people pay attention to his opinion as if it has any more weight than, say, the opinion of that former Lakers girl Paula Abdul.

Simon may be arrogant but his opinion is respected for a reason. Unlike Abdul, he tells it like he sees it and he's been highly successful in the music industry. I think at times he's a bully but that doesn't stop people from listening to him. And don't forget, he's the creative force behind American Idol and any number of bands in the UK. People respect success.

Having said that, I don't like him......he's not someone you look to like.
