Governments specifically draft & recruit 18-20 year olds because they are at an age where the thought of mortality never crosses their young minds - thus they draft & recruit young victims to serve their war goals.

Secondly, especially going into W.W.II and on into Vietnam, governments had to train soldiers to shoot to kill without thinking. So they introduced training methods that used pop-up targets - the young soldiers were conditioned to shoot at the pop-up figures without thinking (thus no time to think that they were killing a human being).

In Vietnam, my older friends who survived used drugs and rock music to dull their senses in order to kill and be killed. Many that returned are still haunted by their memories - even the heroes.

Watching inside news coverage of Iraq the othe night they showed the young soldiers armored vehicles equipped with stereos to play Rap Gang Fighting Music so that these soldiers of 'the streets' would feel comfortable going out and killing people in Iraq while playing their gang music.
Then you wonder why so many come back from Iraq and commit suicide - they can't live with the horror of what they've seen and done.

Wars are fought for other peoples money - glad you didn't buy the into that lie. [W.W.II was where my Dad fought - and in 50 years he never said a word of what he did or saw - I will not foget that. Yet he helped save us from Hitler...]

Having said all that though, I think that Amelia means that we would fight for our own freedoms and rights when it comes to that point - that being our life, liberty and happiness - in a context of defending ourselves.

I think it takes much more courage to stand up against tyranny than to run away.
