I earlier stated that violence from any side is unacceptable, but I think you are blurring a long and extensive history of hatred and abuse and violence against individuals who are gay with temporary and isolated reactions against a group that had organized to deprive these individuals of equal rights.

While condoning neither, I don't find them at all comparable. And I don't believe that every statement has to include some sort of equal representation to be valid. The violence against gays exists and should be condemned by all, regardless of political- or religious- belief.

As for the "center", you are not the first nor will you be the last to misunderstand and misuse the term; it gets hauled out constantly as some sort of gotcha and has gotten to be amusing. People here attempt to see different views and discuss them with some degree of courtesy and intelligence. It doesn't mean that all adhere to some moderate political belief. There are extreme liberals, moderates, and libertarians, and conservatives. What sets the thread apart is its ability to tolerate a certain amount of dissension without devolving into serious insults and attacks.

>>Remember this is the center on this thread<<

Jeff -

Have you read the thread header? It doesn't say that every point of view expressed here must represent the views of the center.

If that were a requirement, neither you nor I would be qualified to post here.
