I know that in Washington State that we are tearing out some dams that are critical to native salmon runs.

The really big hydro dams are on the Columbia and Snake rivers. We still have some ongoing conflicts regarding critical fish runs. Our Orcas are really hurting here..

You should read to Cadillac Desert. You would discover that dam builders build dams, whether it makes economic sense or not. Not even mentioning ecological sense.
