I wasn't aware that *either* of those two things were going on (US media 'demonizing' Americans, or the US gvt. giving weapons to the Mexican state...) so I suppose it's possible that the media is just mouthing-off without knowing very much.

(Not an altogether unexpected state of affairs. :-)
