'cause I sure* thought I'd heard PLENTY of lip-service jawboning for laissez-faire in the public sphere from a lot of 'conservative' headliners over that time span...* I haven't. For "free markets", or "freer markets", or "lower taxes", or "less government involvement", or "smaller government" or "less government interference" yes. I've seen both lip service (sometimes combined with real support, sometimes just lip service, sometimes combined with actions that push things the other way), from people who would generally be considered conservatives. But I haven't seen much argument for laissez-faire from conservatives, esp. from prominent conservatives. Its a term that gets used more by "progressives" who want to bash conservatives. Or its used by strong libertarians who actually support the idea but there aren't very many of them.
