>>>beg OPEC to produce then write a law limiting their imports. This is beyond fricking crazy<<<

Commander, Commander, Commander,

I really must take you to task. It was just a short decade ago when crude had crashed to $10 that the small domestic/US producers were suing OPEC for dumping oil here in order to drive them out of business. About a year later, crude had climbed back above $30 and the US government as a whole was suing them for restricting supply. Of course given delays in the legal system, it came to pass that the collective US was suing OPEC simultaneously for both producing too much and too little.

My ears burn simply pondering what they must be saying about us behind our backs.

We have always been silly. OPEC knows and dismisses that. Sticks and stones might break their bones, but words will never hurt them - not as long as they are the swing producer, and they will be that for the foreseeable future.

Now if they get paid with words - you know - funny money dollar bills, then they might get hurt. But they have alternative currencies waiting in the wings.

Legislate the economy by the pen. Write into law and voila! It happens!
I don't think it is going to happen this time. The legislators are behind the times. They have been overtaken by the events.

They have this myopic view that the country is omnipotent that can turn economic events upon which they have no control.

That was true when the US monopolist capitalism ruled, the country had the control in its hands. Could impose treaties, topple governments, buy good behavior of foreign governments, rally the American people behind a cause and had the money to pay for that.

Those times are over. It is a brand new ball game.
