"... to leave Alaska this weekend." You are right. I missed that leave Alaska part of the excuse. We still don't know anything for certain. Opportunities arise for govs all the time that require a change of plans. There may have been pressing business, then this Alfalfa thing came up and she thought was more important than the other pressing business. It's worth watching but it seems like a lot of fishing is going into finding something pretty trivial here.
