Thank you for understanding that, Jack, as I am more right
wing than I should be for my own good, and sometimes almost
feel like I'm in a sci-fi movie dealing with androids
when I hear the "I don't believe all this stuff about the
environment, they're just manipulating facts for..."
and I really don't know what Christians feel "enviromentalist"
are manipulating facts for. I don't care what people think
they're manipulating facts for. The fact is there are so
few songbirds left they cannot possibly propagate themselves
for more than a couple of breeding seasons. The frog and
toad population is now statistically estimated to be down
40 to 90 (90!!!!!!!!!!) over the entire earth. I haven't
heard locust singing in years. I miss them all. I can remember when I was little the evenings were a symphony of beautiful sounds, and always those dear little toad noises, and the singing of the locust.
Just beautiful. THen about ten years ago I noticed I wasn't
hearing very much. Now I hear practically nothing, and when
I do I am horrified to realize it is one or two creatures
making a small sound.

Don't get me going on that. But yes, I love God's creation.
Whatever He wanted to accomplish by way of pleasing those made in His
image, I can only say that it worked with me. And I have
a few friends I can say the same thing about. The rest of
people? I don't think they really notice very much. It's like
it's all there, but it's kept from them. Perhaps the mystery
of the creation is God revealed. I think it is a gift, given
by God to those who will take it. Maybe. I don't know.
I sure did understand your worrying about the little chicken.
ANyway I hope I understood what I had to read so fast. That
you were worried about a little chick. And yes, God uses
the animals to teach us parables, or illustrate the meaning
of parables. I believe totally and completely that part of
heaven is getting all of our animals back. There's more
than enough room in heaven for all those creatures there
was never room for here. He does keep track of the sparrows
that fall to the ground, I think, except it is beyond my
ability to comprehend such a matter.

Jack, I just noticed your statement about the Jerusalem zoo.
Yes! Now you get the concept. Anyway, I had a very saintly
friend, who truely was, but she and I were the opposite ends
of the political structure and had never changed too much
as a result of our conversions. I was still leaning right, she was leaning left, being a Berkeley graduate, and working wiht
some inner city thing in Los Angeles. We were kind of
arguing about it in very subdued tones, me nicely telling
her why she was wrong, and her nicely telling me I should
be down in the city working with inner city programs, you know,
that kind of thing, and I told her that I would prefer to
work in an inner city zoo, because I loved animals and could
hardly cope with human behavior anymore, and said something
about, in fact, that I was going to ask God for a separate
planet all to myself where I could live with lions and tigers
and bears and have all the animals I wanted. She just smiled
and said...."I'll come visit you." And we never argued again.
It was just a nice little moment.
