For those of us who were there, the Monkees were just a fake group cooked up to capitalize on the Beatles phenomena. They had their own televison show, provided by rip-off, fake corporate America. Although they were real musicians, a couple of them even decent ones, they often had studio guys dub for them. They did what they were hired to do. As comedians, not as musicians. As it turned out, they were decent musicians who made a deal with the devil. There was no ripoff involved. It was the kind of entertainment they chose to enter into.
