Hi BC; Re: "rotflmao! and we are what today?

Then: US VP Burr shoots and kills former US secretary of Treasury (look at your $10 bill) in illegal duel but isn't punished for it because the law is so often violated.

Now: US VP accidentally wings buddy while birding due to unfamiliarity with gun safety.

Then: US citizens in many states are required to own a gun, turn out with it once a month, are fined if it doesn't work, and are required to carry it to church once each week.

Now: US citizens damn near aren't allowed to own guns in many states.

Then: It's expected that a gentleman carries around a sword. This is a 3 foot long razor sharp steel weapon of war. People regularly use them on each other, with fatal results, when they interpret something someone says as a "slight".

Now: Americans yell foul stuff at each other in traffic and no one gets hurt. Carrying a sword gets you put in jail.

There's no comparison. Americans are far less violent now than they were then. And going further back in history it gets even worse. Among neolithic tribes, murder is the most common identifiable cause of death among skeletons we can figure out. At least 8% of the population dies that way. Now very few of us die with boots on.

Billions of cows, chickens, pigs, etc., almost universally die at the hands of humans who are carnivores that hunt in packs and insist on meat freshly killed by their own kind. In comparison, the vast majority of humans die due to "natural causes".
