You just said it yourself, killing and murder are two very different things, there are huge conceptual and linguistic differences... you can kill an animal, but that's not murder... we all know what murder is, i.e., ending another human life under normal peace time circumstances or the crime of unlawfully extinguishing another human especially with malice aforethought, this applied only to humans and not to any other living thing, stepping on an ant is killing the ant, it's not murdering the ant... if you do this to yourself, it is still murder since you are human... during war time, your defending yourself and your country, that's not murder, that's killing... an execution is carrying out a punishment ordered by the State, this is not murder... murder is very specific and you already know what it is as I defined it above...
