ElM, taking over Brazil would be problematic for the USA, the same as Great Britain taking over all those countries which then started shipping evil-doers back to them. Enoch Powell pointed out the problems which would arise and did. Britain long ago slammed the portcullis down.

The USA would NOT want to have hordes of Amazonian pirates moving into the USA.

The USA could take over NZ and it would be a good fit for them and would reduce their problems, not increase them. It would be a handy summer holiday place for a start. The point though is TJ thinking that China could get their grubby mitts on it. I was pointing out that the USA would not find that desirable from a strategic point of view. It is preferable for the USA border with China to be in the China Sea between Taiwan and China, not just off the coast of USA.
