When the fact about what Bernanke intends to do is stated, it's an observation: not support. Those who care to treat the dialogue honestly will know that the predictions have been borne out: no matter what should be done, everyone from Wall Street to Washington continues to do things which only exacerbate the problems. It would be too easy to join the crowd here, and get on the bandwagon collecting recommendations for saying the right things. The fact is, the wrong things are being done. Exactly what was predicted a year ago, and by history. Do CBs (and Bernanke) really believe they'll be able to "turn off the taps" when the time comes, and withdraw liquidity from already-faltering economies that begin to experience [hyper] inflation? After posting repeatedly about the Washington/Wall Street corridor, about oligarchies, and political and financial elites, do you think it's some sort of secret to me? Debt: too much debt is bad. But the US was already in over its head years ago: proven fact which nobody - not one person has acknowledged. The US was already drowning. Now the US is still drowning, only in deeper water. Pardon my cynicism, but whether you drown in 100 fathoms of water or 110 makes no difference. You still drown. The US was on an unsustainable course long before this crisis, but then, nobody cared. Moral hazard? All over the place. Lax regulation? Everywhere. The wrong decisions? So far Obama has chosen to let the bandits design the solutions, and if he's going to change course, he better do it soon. But Obama is one among many, including legislators and starting with Reagan, Clinton and everyone in between - who did the wrong things. And what about fiat money and interventionist economics? Capitalism? I asked last year: in what way will they survive these crises - or will they? The world isn't out of the woods yet, not by a long shot. When we step back and look at the mistakes and half-measures, one after another, we see history being revisited. We see a tremendous, unsustainable burden of debt being transferred to future generations, and leadership trying to have it both ways, as leaders always do. We see a lack of political will, confused and contradictory policy and angry and outraged voters who supported the very people who got them into this mess. I wish you had the leadership and the vision to take the country in a different direction. At least Mish had the guts to actually try to DO something. Does anyone here really believe their posts will make any difference? Do I support this madness? NO WAY. But it was expected, it was predicted, and it's historically consistent. I'll abandon my cynicism when I see the sermonizing directed to political action: when posts advocating "the right thing" have a Washington destination address. Everything else is just piety after the fact: sermons and meaningless words. Talk is useless. Take action. Now. Jim
