There's a huge gulf between your first term and the last two, which is where spin "studies" like to slip in. Just because something exists doesn't mean it can't be rare and infrequent, a la black swans, for example.

Gun issues are only one step above climate stuff as far as all kinds of fragmentary and unclear statistics being thrown around as the gospel truth.
