I could see him becoming very marginal in that circumstance; but in fact, he is only seen and read by a small fraction of Americans now anyway. You have to frequent the right media circles to know he exists at all.

I'm not interested in a pro-Krugman versus anti-Krugman debate and I can take it or leave it about a single column judgment.

But Krugman is a very large influence in the economic profession, he gets a lot of press from his NYTimes' column (partially because he's the guy the right loves to hate), he's a Sunday morning talk show regular of sorts, etc.

He may be like almost all columnists, uneven in product, but he's a force.
