Yet something else you don't understand. Clute isn't a redneck town. At least, not any more. It is more or less a bedroom community for South Houston like Lake Jackson. Lake Jackson has streets with names like 'This Way', 'That Way', 'The Wrong Way'... Clute and Lake Jackson are two different things. Clute is more or less along one main road (Hwy 288) and has relatively little business other than bait shops and a few fast food joints. For example, Clute has no hospital of its own (at least, last time I was there) and relied on Lake Jackson's and Angleton's small hospitals. I don't recall any sizable businesses there, such as auto dealers, etc. As one who has spent a great deal of time in that area, I would say Clute is as much a redneck town as any I can think of. And the mosquitoes there on on down to Freeport and Surfside definitely warrant a festival of their own.
