I guess both Mq and Obama aren't good at multi-tasking.

K, there are perfectly good dictionaries: <ter·ror·ism
/'t?r??r?z?m/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [ter-uh-riz-uhm] Show IPA
–noun
1. the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, esp. for political purposes.
2. the state of fear and submission produced by terrorism or terrorization.
3. a terroristic method of governing or of resisting a government.
Origin:
1785–95; terror + -ism

Destruction of words to a lowest common denominator grunt of feelings rather than thinking and meaning is normal these days, but I'm offering resistance.

Terrorism has a political dimension. A 16 year old kidnapping people to get money is not political. It's to get money. It's garden variety crime and unsophisticated crime at that.

The reason the UN can't agree is because terrorism in the political arena is problematic. One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist. The IRA were outright terrorists to me, killing civilians and anyone else they liked. But to many Americans, the IRA were glorious freedom fighters, poking England n the eye which served them right for 4 July and Independence Day and King George I. China thinks Tibetans are terrorists. Russians think Chechens are terrorists.

There is normally a fairly clear distinction between terrorism and criminality.

"Terrorism" and "Terrorist" are greatly over-used words these days. Obama is sensible to ditch them.
