Well, imo, the captain was in imminent danger from the moment he was captured.

Here's one dictionary definition:

Main Entry: im·mi·nent
Pronunciation: \'i-m?-n?nt\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin imminent-, imminens, present participle of imminere to project, threaten, from in- + -minere (akin to Latin mont-, mons mountain) — more at mount
Date: 1528
: ready to take place ; especially : hanging threateningly over one's head <was in imminent danger of being run over>
— im·mi·nent·ly adverb

Precisely! By definition, the captain's life was in imminent danger when he was taken hostage by pirates with AK-47s. End of story.

Obama skated through on this one, so I guess he gets credit for not interfering in the end result.

I have read that Obama's words were "....if the Captain's life was in "eminent danger"... What the heck does that mean...that any second the people holding the gun to his head "maybe/might/kinda thinking about/etc" would/could shoot now/later/or whenever it came to their mind?....

Obama made a huge gaffe the other day, saying he wanted to make it clear that he is committed to halt the rise of privacy in that region.

Had Bush made the same gaffe, he'd have been skewered unmercifully.

OTOH, maybe it was just a slip of the tongue that gave yet another insight into The One's internal thought processes?
