The problem is that many Americans believe socialism is the way to go. The left wing nutjobs here are extreme in their views; but many Americans who are less extreme don't quite get the idea of socialism, it sounds good to them, so let's go for it.

Obama's going to buy our gas, pay our mortgages, and stop the repo man.

Now you're taking shelter in the absurd, by comparing ignorance (read "religion") reacting to scientific discovery vs reason reacting to economic racism.

You can find examples of religious ignorance today the world over...doesn't make your veiled racist reference any less repulsive.
