But the shipping insurers are effectively funding the pirates by paying ransom. These lucrative ransoms create a vicious feedback loop of higher insurance rates and more pirates with better weapons and equipment.

The Barbary pirates did the same thing and we all know how that ended...will the shores of Somalia be added to the marine hymn?
