I decided to take another peak at the Lott controversy, just out of curiosity. It's quite clear, given the serious critiques in the literature and his inability to respond to them, that no one should cite his arguments as strong evidence.

One critic makes the case best when he argues that much of good research depends on trust in the researcher. The intricacies of data work simply require it. Lott has lost that trust with his failure to adequately respond to his more serious critics.
